Creative Photography Sessions With Redwood and Newbridge Young People

March brought two school and college photography sessions, first with young people from Redwood School and shortly after with students at Newbridge College, each bringing their own energy to a morning behind the camera.

For many participants at both sessions, this was their first time using a proper camera rather than a phone, and the difference showed. There’s a particular kind of focus that comes with holding a dedicated camera and thinking about a shot rather than snapping instantly, and TOC’s facilitators spent time helping students build that instinct through simple, achievable exercises in composition and framing.

What stood out across both sessions was how quickly nervousness turned into curiosity. Students who started the morning unsure of which button did what were, by the end, experimenting with angles and asking to try different settings themselves.

Sessions like these are exactly what TOC exists to deliver: low-pressure, hands-on introductions to photography that give young people a genuine new skill and, just as importantly, the confidence to keep using it. We’re grateful to both Redwood School and Newbridge College for welcoming us in, and we’re looking forward to future sessions with both groups.
